I love to read a non-cheesy, non-predictable romance book from time to time, itโs really feel good reading without thinking! Feels a bit like a hug in a book somehow ๐ I really love Beth OโLeary books in this genre, the road trip and the switch-up in particular. They are heartwarming and I believe I cried as well ๐
Yes, they're so great to read when you need something sweet and easy to read. I saved Happy Place for after I finished reading A Little Life and it was the lighthearted story I needed after a book like that! ๐ค I'll definitely check out her books, thank you so much for the recommendation!
I read romance once in a while so I appreciate this post! I definitely need to dive into the genre a bit more to understand which romance books I particularly like because it seems I am either "hit" or "miss" with a lot of them; I massively enjoyed Book lovers (also the main character is called Nora) but I could not stand Bridgerton (insert embarassment). I think it wasn't provocative enough for me - especially compared to the tv adaptation (which I looove).
I'm the same way -- I feel like I'm still finding my footing in the genre and I'm still trying to figure out what my likes and dislikes are. I definitely understand what you mean about Bridgerton -- the adaption does a much better job at adding depth to the story and the characters. I've read the first two books of the series and I've found that, for me, they're perfect as a guilty pleasure, something I need when I've read a lot of heavier books and don't want to burnout reading anything too intense ๐ค
And completely valid! I love myself a guilty pleasure haha. I think one needs to see them as separate from one another (the books and the adaptation that is) and I simply couldn't - that's my mistake
I will definitely pick up more Emily Henry because of my positive experience. I'm at least one step further to exploring my romance reading taste then!
Nothing like a good (predictable) romance book when you feel like reading something just for fun! Theyโre a breather between some of the heavier books I read but theyโre also soooooo entertaining and who doesnโt love love? Great recommendations โฅ๏ธ
Yes! There's nothing better than reading a romance book after reading something heavier. I saved Happy Place by Emily Henry to read after A Little Life and I'm so glad I did. I needed something lighthearted and easier to read after that one! ๐ค
Thank you so much for the recommendation, I've seen their books but wondered if I should pick them up ๐ค and yes, Magnolia Parks was so so stressful, but it was one of those books for me that I just had to get to the end and then pick up the next one ๐
Omg! I canโt believe you havenโt read romances until this year, but also how fun that you can discover all of the amazing books there are! Love this list
Wow! I looooove how you started with a quote! That totally got me. Those Emily Henry books sound awesome. In fact, Iโm putting several of these on my TBR! Because romance is my absolute favorite!! ๐
I love a good quote that helps to summarise the book! ๐ค I'm so glad you found some to put on your TBR. I hope you love the Emily Henry ones -- she always writes such a great romance book!
Romance books that are interesting are my favorite! I've already read six from your list, and they've all been wonderful. Even though my TBR list is pretty long, I'm always eager for more recommendations. Now, I'm thrilled that I can read about more books on your Substack.
Soooo many of these are on my TBR! I'm so excited to read Happy Place this summer and I really feel like I'm missing out on the Magnolia Parks hype too.
I hope you love Happy Place -- I feel like every Emily Henry book is a good read though! And yes, I felt like I was missing out on Magnolia Parks too. I'm so glad I read it though, it's a very guilty pleasure series for me, but it does have a surprising amount of depth. I can't say no to messy characters haha.
Iโm so excited for Magnolia Parks ๐ Iโve been seeing Bride everywhere but wasnt convinced I could trust the internet readers - I might give it a go for spooky season!

I keep seeing her name everywhere and honestly I donโt know how Iโve lived this long without having read one! ๐
Donโt worry, youโre not alone with that! I only read my first Emily Henry this year and I couldnโt believe that it took me this long either ๐ค

I am half-way through You, Again. I was thinking about abandoning it for another mystery but you've convinced me to return to it!
